Every day
matters.
Real people helping adolescents move toward connection, meaningful participation, and growing independence—at school and beyond.
A human approach.
Avoidance can look like not showing up—or showing up and still feeling far from the learning, people, or activities that matter.
The Every Day Matters approach helps adults look beyond the behavior, understand what is getting in the way, and support a safe, manageable next step. It is designed for adolescents who are avoiding school or other social and academic activities, as well as those who attend but remain disengaged.
Understand what is hard. Help make the next step possible.
Participation grows from being understood.
EDMMethod helps adults see absence and disengagement as signals to understand, not proof of motive. A student’s physical presence does not always mean they are able to take part. The work begins with curiosity and practical support.
- ✓See the pattern, not just the momentLook across school, relationships, home, work, and activities.
- ✓Check what adults can changeMake safety, health, rights, accommodations, and real barriers part of the plan.
- ✓Build skills through supported actionChoose a manageable step, learn from it, and gradually shift ownership.
Practical learning for the people who support adolescents.
Grounded in direct experience and organized around usable actions, the training helps teams move from “What’s wrong?” to “What’s getting in the way, and what can we do next?”
Full-day session

Two half days

Modular presentations

Matters
Keep the ideas close to the moments that matter.
The practical guide expands on the eight steps with plain-language context, questions to open conversations, cautions to keep in view, and tools adults can return to as needs change.
Joe Pedemonti
Thirty-five years of showing up in the work.
Joe Pedemonti founded EDMMethod after a career spent working directly with young people facing significant challenges. He began at a homeless youth shelter and spent 30 years at a private therapeutic day school, in the classroom and in the field—including one-to-one counseling.
Joe holds an M.S. in Special Education. The Every Day Matters approach grew out of decades of listening to adolescents, supporting them through difficult moments, and helping them build skills and resilience. Its focus is lasting change that can matter in a young person’s life—and to the families and communities around them.
Make space for the next step—and the person taking it.
